YEAR

2014

Pakva is a vegetarian café and lounge in Mysore serving international cuisine and freshly baked pizzas, the first of its kind in the city. The concept of a modern vegetarian café with live pizzas was fairly new to Mysoreans at the time, who were mostly accustomed to either run of the mill South Indian food joints or pure fine dining establishments.
SCENARIO

The café approached us when they were fairly new, after only about a year in business. Pakva wanted to shift from the small space they were operating out of into a bigger space in a busier part of town.

Moving to a different location is a double edged sword – it can either improve profitability vastly or can severely damage the business. The lounge had to include its existing customer base in the process of relocation whilst generating enough interest to excite new customers.
OBJECTIVE

The client came to us with the primary requirement of designing a new menu. We analysed their existing brand identity and after a few brainstorming sessions with the client, we decided to refurbish their image with the aim to make Pakva a more recognized name in Mysore.
CHALLENGE

The project was on a tight schedule, with just one month for ideation, planning and execution. We knew that the mascot had to be reflective of Pakva’s personality, had to radiate positivity and had to appeal to people of all ages. It was also crucial that the execution had to be simple and versatile. The mascot had to feature in various media, from wooden boards to flex prints. The place also had a rustic ambience and the mascot had to be representative of the café’s environment.
SOLUTION

What better way to impart a new personality to the multi-cuisine restaurant, than with a playful mascot? We sketched out various versions of a mascot with universal appeal - a central character who represents positivity and the values of the café.
VERSION 1.0

VERSION 2.0

Our initial attempts for the mascot were based on the business partner herself. This did get the wheel rolling but we eventually found our inspiration in her 8 year old daughter, who was often found skating all around the restaurant in her über-cool shoes with wheels.
VERSION 2.1

We eventually arrived at a character who was an amiable little girl who had an equal passion for scrumptious vegetarian food as for gliding around in her Heelys.
We first introduced the mascot in the following teaser, as the character was to be featured in the new space.
The character was versatile and could be adapted into various scenarios.
She was then featured in all their hoardings, their menu as well as their social media posts.
